Stork is Epic's obstetric system that organizes obstetric care and has specific functionality necessary for the workflow documentation of labor and delivery. Stork organizes the course of patient care from beginning to end.

  • Stork 2022 Fall Upgrade - (Handout) Stork updates for providers, nursing staff, and unit clerks will be implemented on Saturday, December 3, 2022.
  • Admit Baby from the Main OR - (Handout) Admit a baby born in the Main OR by using the Admit button in the Delivery Summary.
  • Admit or Transfer Baby to NICU - (Handout) Admit or transfer a baby from LDR or the Newborn Nursing using the L&D Grease Board.
  • Admitting Baby Error Resolution - (Handout) If an error displays when admitting a baby, specific steps need to be followed to resolve the error.
  • Admitting the Baby from the ED - (Handout) The NUC can admit a baby born in the ED by using the Arrival button on the L&D Manager.
  • CertaScan Epic Documentation - (Handout) Flowsheet charting must be completed to indicate if Infant Security Identification was obtained. The scanned file that contains the baby’s footprint, mother’s fingerprint, and baby’s photo can be viewed in Chart Review.

  • Document Fetal Relatives Shared in Pedigree and OB History - (Handout) To give clinicians more information about pregnancy histories and reduce redundant documentation, fetal relative records can be linked in Pedigree and pregnancy records in OB History.
  • Finding Pregnancy Episode Reports - (Handout) This document shows you how to find pregnancy episode reports, including the Delivery: Mom Chart, vitals, OB results, dating, OB history and other pregnancy information. Information is shown for both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Integrated 5P BPA - (Handout) A new 5P BPA for obstetric patients may suggest a brief intervention and a referral to the Maternal Substance Use Disorder clinic based on the patient's responses to the substance use questionnaire.

  • Postpartum Hemorrhage Management - (Handout) In the event of a postpartum hemorrhage, nursing can place orders per protocol with the assistance of BPAs that fire from nursing documentation.

  • Psych Leave of Absence for Labor and Delivery - (Handout) When an admitted patient in the UIHC Psych Hospital needs to go to Labor & Delivery, Leave of Absence (LOA) provides the ability to pause the patient’s Psych admission and subsequently resume that admission at a later time, without discharging and readmitting the patient. This process only applies to admitted UIHC Psych Hospital patients going to Labor & Delivery.
  • QBL Calculator - (Handout) The Quantitative Blood Loss Calculator will be used to calculate blood loss during and after delivery.
  • Reconcile Outside Obstetric History for Clinical Staff - (Handout) See a more complete picture of patients' obstetric history by reconciling external data into the patient's local chart.
  • Set the Notify PCP Preference - (Handout) Event notifications alert the provider that the patient has received care at a different setting. If the patient expresses a desire to not have event notifications sent, staff can indicate that preference on the Admission or ED Update form.
  • Stork Episodes of Care - (Handout) Managing episodes is easier with the redesigned Episodes of Care activity.
  • Stork Hemorrhage Emergency - (Handout) The Hemorrhage Emergency activity will be used for real-time documentation of hemorrhage events.
  • Stork Labor and Delivery Surgical Pathology Specimen - (Handout) Specific steps for documenting surgical pathology specimens collected in the OR and in the Delivery Room must be followed.

Non Stress Test (NST)

  • NST LIP Documentation - (Handout) The nursing and/or resident documentation for the NST will be routed as an In Basket message to the NST folder.
  • NST LIP Documentation - Resident - (Handout) The nursing documentation for the NST is routed to either the OB Resident Pool or the Family Med Resident Pool.
  • NST Nursing Documentation in Ambulatory Clinic - (Handout) When a patient has a scheduled NST appointment in the OBG Obstetric or IRL WHC Obstetrics clinic, the nursing documentation will be entered in the OB Assess section of the Prenatal Visit navigator.
  • NST Nursing Documentation on LDR/MBCU - (Handout) The nursing documentation for the NST will be entered on the NST Doc Flowsheet template and then will be routed to the appropriate provider’s In Basket.
