Care Everywhere is an Epic application that provides access at the point of care to the patient's medical records from other organizations. The UIHC has joined the Care Everywhere Network and is able to send and receive information from other institutions using Epic.

Point-of-care authorizations allow patients to complete the required authorization, directly from their MyChart account.

  • Documenting Patient Allergies - (Handout) Documentation of allergies is important for patient safety. Allergies can be added manually to Epic, they can also be received from outside sources. The Reconcile Outside Information activity allows the clinician to review information related to allergies from outside sources such as MyChart and Care Everywhere. The clinician can decide whether to add the information to the patient’s chart.

  • Identifying a Care Everywhere Referral - (Handout) Care Everywhere referral information will display in various activities in Epic and the Care Everywhere activity can also be opened from these activities.

  • Incoming Care Everywhere Referrals - (Handout) When a provider at another organization sends a referral via Care Everywhere, a message is created that displays in the Incoming Messages workqueue. Staff review the details provided and the patient record to determine if a Referral needs to be created.

  • Opt Out of Care Everywhere - (Handout) When patients wish to opt out of sharing their information via Care Everywhere, any staff member may start the process by submitting the patient’s request.
