Guidelines for a Successful Training Day
- Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your Epic training session is scheduled to begin.
- Proceed to the lower-level Training Center. There is no need to check in at the front desk.
- A badge reader for clocking in and out is available next to the elevators.
- If you are late, you may not be allowed to join a session and might need to reschedule with your supervisor.
- Staff are required to stay for the entire training session to obtain Epic security access.
- If you have it, Bring your staff ID badge as it may be used to record attendance.
- Silence cell phones and pagers during training.
- Please DO NOT wear cologne or perfume.
- DO wear layers in case of varying in-class temperatures.
- If you need any accommodations, including a lactation room, please email EpicTrainingRequests@healthcare.uiowa.edu in advance.
Getting to HSSB

CAMBUS - provides on-demand, fare-free, and accessible rides to HSSB from any existing CAMBUS stop. You can request a ride in two main ways:
- Scheduling a ride in the CAMBUS Now app
- Call CAMBUS dispatch at 319-335-8633 to schedule a ride
Riders will need a free user account to use on-demand services. Riders may create their own account in the CAMBUS Now app (Opens in a new tab), or CAMBUS staff can create an account for a rider at the time a ride is requested.
Parking
- If you currently pay for an Iowa parking permit - park either to the left or the right of the building.
- If you don’t pay for a permit - Visitor and Accessible parking are front and center: (see below).

Getting to Class
The HSSB building and the Training Center do not open until 7:30 AM.
- Enter through the 1st floor Entrance.
- Follow the signs downstairs.
- Enter the training center.
- You will see an electronic Training Room schedule and the log book to register your vehicle if you do not have an Iowa Parking Permit.

Food & Drink
Covered drinks and snacks are typically allowed in the training rooms.
If your class spans lunch – be aware most classes do not break for more than 30 minutes.
Other Key information:
- The café in the building is open until 2:30 PM each day. Select RTC on any of the days to see the menu for that day: FNS Menus (uiowa.edu)
- The café does not take cash – use credit or charge if your ID is set up for it.
- Our vending machines will take cash or credit.
- If you want to bring food and/or drink from home, there is a kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, filtered water dispenser, and a Keurig.
- You will need to bring your own: water bottle/cup for filtered water, Keurig cups, and a container/cup for your coffee.
EPCS Fingerprinting for Providers
In conjunction with Epic training for Providers, you may be able to complete the Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS) enrollment.
*If you arrive early enough prior to your class time, you may be able to complete the enrollment prior to training. Otherwise, you will be able to do this after training has finished.
You will need to bring two forms of ID as specified below and your personal mobile device.
On your personal mobile device, you must have:
- The Duo Security app already installed and setup
Access to your UI Healthcare email on your mobile device
To be eligible to enroll in EPCS, you must provide:
- Required: 1 – Government issued photo ID
- Driver’s License
- Passport
- Visa w/ Photo
- Required: 1 – Employer-issued Badge
- Iowa Health Care Employee ID Badge
If you do NOT have these forms of ID on you, you will still be able to attend Epic training at your scheduled time.
