The following resources provide information about texting with patients and approved patient texting options.

Texting with Patients - (Flyer) Texting patients from your personal device or utilizing email to text functionality is not an approved process and may result in a breach of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and/or Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
Message Media Overview and Guidelines - (Handout) Each area that wants to use Message Media to text with patients needs to work with the Compliance Office to make sure there is an approved process in place for getting the patients’ permission to text them and making sure their approval is documented.
