Clinicians might want to prepare for visits by documenting in appointments before the patient arrives. Pre-charting benefits clinicians by allowing them to review important information prior to the visit and include it as needed in their note, such as letters or referrals from another provider; encourages communication between providers and support staff based on the information reviewed prior to the visit; gives clinicians a way to remind themselves and others about specific information they want to discuss with the patient during the visit; and helps clinicians spend more face time with patients and less time documenting in the chart during the visit.

Resources

The following resources provide information on Pre-Charting functionality.

  • Pre-Charting - (Handout) To more easily prepare for patient visits, clinicians can now pre-chart on encounters. This means clinicians can write notes, enter diagnoses, updated medications, or place orders before the patient even arrives.
