Philips devices allow the patient's care team to monitor vital signs and other important biological data. Many of these devices can be linked to the patient's medical record in Epic.

Resources

The following resources provide information on Philips Device Integration.

Emergency Department

  • Action Steps and Glossary - (Handout) Overview of action steps and glossary of terms.

  • Associating and Disassociating the Device in Epic - (Handout) When a patient is moved into or out of a “virtual room,” the device (or Philips sector) must be manually updated in Epic. “Virtual rooms” are Hallway beds and the OTF care area. These steps are unnecessary if the patient is moved into or out of a “fixed room.” All devices will automatically be disassociated when the patient is moved to another unit or discharged from Epic.

  • Discharging from Philips Monitoring - (Handout) Follow these steps to discontinue use of the Philips monitor. This discharges the patient out of the Philips system and device integration with Epic will cease. Philips Central Monitors will store the data for 7 days. Any unvalidated data in Epic is also stored for 7 days.

  • Initiating Philips Monitoring - (Handout) Once the patient is admitted and roomed in Epic, follow these steps to get them admitted into the Philips monitoring system. This can be done via the X2 monitor in the room or at the Central Monitor. The following steps outline the process using the Philips X2 monitor.

  • Remote Monitoring of Philips Devices - (Handout) Workstations in the ED and ED-CT are equipped with the ability to remotely view the Philips X2 monitor vitals and waveforms. Alarms and device settings cannot be managed using remote monitoring.

  • Transferring to a New Philips Sector - (Handout) When the patient’s location in Epic is going to be changed, first follow these steps to update the Philips sector. The Philips sector must match the patient’s Epic location for unvalidated data to populate in Epic. This can be done directly from the X2 Device OR from the Central Monitor.

  • Viewing and Validating Device Data in Epic - (Handout) Vital signs data that drops into Epic from the Philips device is temporarily stored in Epic for 7 days. Device data must be reviewed and validated within Epic to become part of the patient’s permanent medical record.
